The name of the mosque may surprise you, but it is said that one night the Prophet's (PBUH) companions were unable to locate him despite searching everywhere. They were so distraught and worried about what might have happened to him that they stayed up all night. He returned the following morning and informed them that a jinn had asked him to go to his people (the jinn) and read lines from the Holy Quran to them.
The mosque was thus constructed at the site of the Prophet's encounter with the jinn, and it served as a significant Islamic monument for all of recorded history. Since its creation, it has been given care and attention and has undergone numerous renovations.
